Twenty-five Glenville State College business majors have been recognized as Distinguished Business Students at an annual awards luncheon. The students all received award certificates and $50 gift cards at the April event.

“All business students are eligible to compete for an award at this event. Students are able to work hard at a great GPA, excel on the major fields test, or just simply stand out for getting involved and being an exceptional leader,” said GSC Department of Business Chair Dr. Sherry Jones.

Sports Management Major Donita Adams was recognized for her outstanding leadership and scholarly qualities. Adams is from Germantown, Maryland and enjoys giving back to the community, mentoring, basketball, and step dancing.

Accounting Major Kristina Beron was recognized for her excellent scholarly demeanor and academic accomplishments. Beron is from Troy, West Virginia (Gilmer County) and enjoy spending time with her family, watching NASCAR, and working on crafts.

Management Major Grace Boyles was recognized for her professional work ethic and excellent academic scholarly qualities. Boyles is from Spencer, West Virginia (Roane County) and enjoys mentoring at Glenville Elementary School.

Management Major Roseanna Bush was recognized as a Strategic Management and Planning Service Learning class Team Leader. Bush is from Glenville, West Virginia (Gilmer County) and enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Business Major Ashley Collins was recognized as the Outstanding Associate Degree Student. Collins is from Ellenboro, West Virginia (Ritchie County) and enjoys cooking, babysitting, and spending time with family and friends.

Accounting Major Samantha Crouch was recognized for her outstanding dedication and academic achievements. Crouch is from Pullman, West Virginia (Ritchie County) and enjoys hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, scrapbooking, making crafts, and spending time with family and friends.

Accounting/Marketing Major Misty DeLong was recognized as the Senior with the highest major field test score and as the outstanding marketing student. DeLong is from Philippi, West Virginia (Barbour County) and enjoys track/cross-country, cheerleading, and reading.

Business Education/Marketing Major Joseph Evans was recognized as the outstanding business education student. Evans is from Shady Spring, West Virginia (Raleigh County) and enjoys playing golf, exercising, hanging out with friends, and playing video games.

Accounting Major Jamie Frederick was recognized for her outstanding professional demeanor and scholarship. Frederick is from Grantsville, West Virginia (Calhoun County) and enjoys reading, making art, and shopping.

Accounting Major Dustin Freshour was recognized for his excellent academic efforts and achievements. Freshour is from Glenville, West Virginia (Gilmer County) and enjoys spending time with his family, the outdoors, playing video games, and watching television.

Computer Informations Major Caleb Greathouse was recognized as the Freshman with the highest major field test score. Greathouse is from Spencer, West Virginia (Roane County) and enjoys guitar, working out, cars, and football.

Business Education (5-Adult)/General Math-Algebra (5-9) Major Jade Jean was recognized for her excellent service, leadership, and academic accomplishments. Jean is from Martinsburg, West Virginia (Berkeley County) and enjoys reading, traveling, and watching movies.

Marketing/Management Major Bryson Karp was recognized as an Outstanding Intern and Scholar. Karp is from Weston, West Virginia (Lewis County) and enjoys playing golf, hunting, fishing, playing basketball, and spending time with his family.

Computer Information Systems Major Jacob Mervine was recognized as a Strategic Management and Planning Service Learning Team Leader. Mervine is from Buckhannon, West Virginia (Upshur County) and enjoys computers, technology, radio controlled models and robotics, and working on cars.

Management Major Amanda Miller was recognized as a Strategic Management and Planning Service Learning Team Leader. Miller is from Glenville, West Virginia (Gilmer County) and enjoys caring for animals, reading, listening to music, and shopping.

Marketing Major Thomas Mutter was recognized for his excellent professional demeanor and academic achievements. Mutter is from Lewisburg, West Virginia (Greenbrier County) and enjoys listening to music, sports, learning about history, traveling, fitness, and playing the guitar and harmonica.

Business Major Siona Osborne was recognized as a member of the Best Service Learning Team in the Applied Business Communications course. Osborne is from Auburn, West Virginia (Ritchie County) and enjoys scrapbooking, cross-stitching, drawing and photography.

Management/Resort Area Management Major Callie Pell was recognized as a member of the Best Service Learning Team in the Applied Business Communications course. Pell is from Looneyville, West Virginia (Roane County) and enjoys soap making, crafts, quilting, and snow skiing.

Marketing/Resort Area Management Major Zeb Ritchie was recognized for his excellent human relations skills and his academic accomplishments. Ritchie is from Grantsville, West Virginia (Calhoun County) and enjoys collecting rare antiques, outdoor recreational activities, and spending time with family and friends.

Accounting Major Brittany Smith was recognized as the Senior Business Student with the highest overall grade point average resulting in the Ernest H. Smith Award. This award is in honor of former GSC Department of Business Ernest H. Smith. The students who receive this award have their names engraved on a plaque in the business department display case. Brittany was also recognized as the Outstanding Accounting Student. Brittany Smith is from Franklin, West Virginia (Pendleton County) and enjoys farming and hunting.

Sports Management Major Kimberly Stephens was recognized as a member of the Best Service Learning Team in the Applied Business Communications course. Stephens is from Parkersburg, West Virginia (Wood County) and enjoys basketball and working out.

Accounting/Management Major Corey Tucker was recognized as a member of the Best Service Learning Team in the Applied Business Communications course. Tucker is from Weston, West Virginia (Lewis County) and enjoys sports, music, singing, guitar, social work, movies, reading, outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.

Management Major Trent Walker was recognized as the Outstanding Management Student and as the recipient of the Wall Street Journal Award. The Wall Street Journal Award is given to the junior with the highest grade point average. The recipient receives a one-year free subscription to the Wall Street Journal, his name published in the Wall Street Journal, a medallion, and his name on a plaque in the GSC Business Department display case. Walker is from Dawson, West Virginia (Greenbrier County) and enjoys church, camping, fishing, snowboarding, and hunting.

Sports Management Major Kendra Way was recognized as the Outstanding Sport Management Student. Way is from Lumberport, West Virginia (Harrison County) and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Computer and Informations Major Adam Williams was recognized as the Outstanding Computer and Information Systems Student. Williams is from Weston, West Virginia (Lewis County) and enjoys computer programming and reading.

The 2009-2010 Business Advisory Board members also met the same day and assessed the numerous programs within the department, received department news, and stayed for the awards luncheon.
