Glenville, WVâGlenville State College students under the direction of GSC Community Engagement Coordinator Keith Barr spent Tuesday morning, April 29th installing new playground equipment at Glenville Elementary School. Volunteer students from the GSC Athletic Department including Camai Roberson, Donita Adams, Karina Kendrick, Michael Harden, Wes Hanson, and Felicia Reyes teamed with Gilmer County Hidden Promise Scholars to begin construction of the new equipment.
The project is the first for Barr who has recently been hired for the position at GSC. Barr commented, âI feel good about this project. It brings joy to my heart to know our students are helping our community. I also love the fact that community engagement is so important to our college president Dr. Peter Barr.â
Similar community service projects will be coordinated by Keith Barr in all thirteen counties participating in the GSC Hidden Promise Scholars Initiative. Glenville State College President Dr. Peter Barr says encouraging students to give back to their communities is very important. âWe must train students for jobs, but, at the same time, educate them to make the world a better place to live.â
