GLENVILLE, WV - GSC TV is now on the air for Shentel Cable TV customers. The new Glenville State College channel focuses on academics and athletics at GSC and is a part of Shentel's cable lineup for digital subscribers throughout West Virginia. Shentel, also known as Shenandoah Telecommunications Company, provides high-speed Internet, TV and home phone services in West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland.
The channel complements GSC's minor in communications which began last year and a communications major that is being developed. Currently, students involved in the campus communications program produce content for locally-broadcast radio and the TV channels which air only at Glenville State. Moving forward, those students will have an opportunity to develop, produce, edit and star in video productions that will be used for broader outreach through Shentel.
Shentel also connected GSC's new Waco Center and Morris Stadium to allow real-time television coverage of football and basketball games as well as other sports and events.
"For now, we are offering live sports and recorded lectures on GSC TV. However, we are building programming to offer more content in the future," said Jennifer Wenner who coordinates the campus radio and TV programs at GSC.
The availability of GSC TV is a result of an agreement between the college and the Virginia-based cable and Internet service provider, in August. Shentel customers can find GSC TV on Channel 182.
"We're delighted to be working with Glenville State College by providing their student body with advanced technology resources to support their college experience," said Shentel Vice President of Cable Tom Whitaker.
