Glenville State University Women’s Leadership Circle Awards Scholarships

GLENVILLE, WV – Glenville State University (GSU) students Avalon Green, Madelynn V. Ojanpera-Lynch, and Megan Harding are the recipients of the Spring 2022 Women’s Leadership Circle Scholarship. The scholarship, awarded annually, is open to all female students at Glenville State University.

Green, a sophomore integrated marketing major from Salt Lake City, Utah, is a member of the GSU Women’s Golf Team and a finalist in the 2022 West Virginia Business Plan Competition.

“Receiving this scholarship means so much to me because it shows me that in Glenville, women are lifting other women up. It is so comforting to know that my dreams and desires are supported and encouraged by all of the great female role models that came before me at the University and in the community,” she said.

For Green, the Women’s Leadership Circle Scholarship provides an opportunity to make her dream of developing a women’s golf apparel line that provides fashion and function a reality. “Getting this scholarship will help me achieve my goals by allowing me to focus on my education and business,” Green said. “This scholarship has enabled me with the opportunity to take a step with confidence, continue my education to further understand business, and be able to learn and gain as much knowledge as possible.”

Ojanpera-Lynch, a sophomore studying Music Education (Pre-K-Adult) from Elizabeth, West Virginia, is currently the Secretary for GSU’s Student Government Association and is a member of Glenville State’s Marching Band.

For Ojanpera-Lynch, receiving the scholarship is pushing her to strive for more. “It meant everything to me when I received the Women’s Leadership Circle Scholarship. It showed that my hard work has paid off and that the work doesn’t stop here. It encourages me to keep going, pursue leadership roles, and encourage other women to do so as well,” she said. After graduation, she plans to teach music in West Virginia at the high school level.

Harding, a junior studying Elementary Education (K-6) and Social Studies Education (5-9) from Calhoun County, West Virginia, is involved in the Early Education Student Group, the Student Reading Interest Group, and is a member of the GSU Women’s Golf Team.

Harding plans to use her scholarship to assist with costs related to completing her degree. “It is such an honor to receive the Women’s Leadership Circle Scholarship because it has shown me that amazing things can happen when women come together,” said Harding. After graduation, she plans to return to her hometown to teach.

The Women’s Leadership Circle was founded on the basis of fellowship, opportunity, and philanthropy and envisions a community of female givers who provide opportunities and support to female students at Glenville State University. In addition to aiding projects on campus, members will help create a culture of female empowerment on the GSU campus and surrounding community, helping women to prepare for and grow in their careers and leadership positions.
