Glenville State University Students Gain Hands-On Experience in Death Investigation through Autopsy Trip

Glenville, WV — Students from Glenville State University's Death Investigation program recently had the unique opportunity to participate in a hands-on autopsy trip, providing them with invaluable, real-world experience in forensic science. This immersive educational experience is a testament to Glenville State’s commitment to preparing students for successful careers in criminal justice and forensic investigation.

During the trip, students donned full personal protective equipment (PPE) and engaged directly in autopsy procedures under the expert guidance of the university’s dedicated faculty. The students were not just observers; they played an active role in the investigative process, delving into the intricacies of forensic pathology, evidence collection, and the examination of human remains.

"Our death investigation program offers a unique, hands-on approach that sets us apart from other institutions," said Dr. Robert E. Rice, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Glenville State University. "By allowing our students to learn by doing, we bridge the gap between theory and practice, ensuring they are equipped with the confidence and competence needed to excel in high-stakes environments."

This experiential learning model is part of Glenville State University’s broader mission to provide students with opportunities to apply classroom knowledge in practical settings. By working closely with faculty who bring extensive real-world experience, students gain critical insights into the complexities of death investigations and forensic science.
