Glenville State University to Celebrate Critical Thinking Awareness Day on February 15
GLENVILLE, WV – Glenville State University will take part in recognizing West Virginia’s first annual Critical Thinking Awareness Day on Thursday, February 15. Events will take place at the Robert F. Kidd Library starting at 5:00 p.m.
Sponsored by the Robert F. Kidd Library, the Department of Social Science, the Pioneer Debate Team, and the Department of Language and Literature, the event promises a series of activities aimed at promoting critical thinking skills.
Activities at the event will include a trivia challenge for attendees to test their knowledge and engage in friendly competition, a mini debate on a compelling topic where the audience will have the opportunity to vote on the winner, and a screening of the documentary, The UFO Movie THEY Don’t Want You to See. This science-based documentary by Brian Dunning examines the widespread videos and talking points about unidentified aerial phenomena/UFOs in mainstream media through a critical lens. Refreshments will be provided.
“With the success of October’s Demystifying Skepticism presentation by Glenville State alumnus Daniel Reed, we are pleased to have him return and assist in developing another activity in celebration of critical thinking skills and provide the campus and community with an opportunity to learn to better apply logic and sound reasoning to their daily lives,” said Library Director and Archivist, Jason Gum.
The ability to think critically is crucial for navigating an increasingly complex and information-rich world. As such, Critical Thinking Awareness Day, officially recognized through efforts of the West Virginia Skeptics Society and by a proclamation from Governor Jim Justice, serves as a reminder of the importance of cultivating these skills. Glenville State’s participation in celebrating this day reflects the recognition of the role educational institutions play in shaping individuals who can analyze information, think independently, and make informed decisions.
The event is open to students and members of the community. For more information about the celebration of Critical Thinking Awareness Day at Glenville State University, contact the Robert F. Kidd Library at (304) 462-6161.
