Glenville State University attends the 2024 NCAA Convention in Phoenix
The 2024 NCAA Convention, held in Phoenix, marked a triumphant conclusion on Saturday, January 13th as 3,000 dedicated members from all three divisions enthusiastically returned to their respective campus and conference offices. The week-long event highlighted a vibrant exchange of ideas, recognition through awards, comprehensive governance discussions, and enlightening education sessions.
The convention saw active participation from Glenville State University including esteemed Athletic Director Jesse Skiles. Alongside him, representatives from Glenville State University, namely Cheyenne Carr, Kristen Tunno, and Dwight Heaster, added their voices to the diverse array of perspectives.
“All levels of NCAA institutions are represented, it’s a historic time for college athletics and having Glenville in that conversation it makes it an exciting time to be a Pioneer!” says Athletic Director Jesse Skiles.
Throughout the convention, attendees engaged in thought-provoking discussions on various aspects of collegiate sports, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, leadership, and innovation in shaping the future of NCAA athletics. The event provided a platform for networking, sharing best practices, and fostering a sense of community among the attendees.
NCAA President Charlie Baker delivered his first State of College Sports address before a packed theater Wednesday in a speech that touched on 10 points of progress the Association has experienced in his first 10 months on the job.
At last year’s Convention, Baker spoke briefly to Association members as incoming president and vowed to listen to their needs and begin taking action on his first day in office. Since then, he has had more than 120 conversations with leaders of all 97 conferences across the three divisions. The Association has made strides in improving the health and well-being of student-athletes and secured a new eight-year media rights agreement with ESPN.
Future convention dates and locations will be held:
2025 – Nashville, Tennessee: Jan. 15-18.
2026 – Washington, D.C.: Jan. 14-17.
2027 – Anaheim, California: Jan. 13-16.
