Glenville State College has named Dave Hutchison as head football coach for the Pioneers.

“I am truly honored and blessed to be the head football coach at Glenville State College. The support I have received from the community, the administration, and the players has been second to none. I am excited to get to work and put a team on the field that will make Pioneer fans proud,” Hutchison said.

Hutchison replaces Alan Fiddler, who resigned last week after leading the program for seven years. Hutchison has been a part of the Pioneer coaching staff since 2008 as assistant head coach, offensive coordinator, and offensive line coach.

In three years, he has won the respect of student-athletes and fans as a coach and member of the Glenville community. He certainly possesses all the qualities that can lead to Pioneer success on the field and the campus," said Glenville State College President Peter Barr.

In Hutchison’s three seasons with the Pioneers he has coached ten offensive linemen who have received All Conference honors, led by first team selections Marcal Lazenby, Joe Charles, and Mark Jackson, and second team selections Adam Adkins and Mike Daly.

In 2008, his offensive line played an integral part in helping the Pioneers finish with the WVIAC’s top offense, top total offense (452.1 ypg), top scoring offense (33.9 ppg), and top rushing offense (282 ypg). They helped pave the way for one of Glenville’s all time greats, Jerry Seymour, a Harlon Hill candidate running back, who was named the 2008 WVIAC Offensive Player of the Year and led the nation in rushing with a 207.4 average per game.

Hutchison came to Glenville State College after spending the 2007 season on Lloyd Carr’s staff at the University of Michigan. At Michigan, he was the offensive quality control coach, helping them to a 9-4 record including a victory over Florida in the Capital One Bowl. While at Michigan, he assisted an offense that saw five players drafted into the NFL, including Jake Long, Chad Henne, and Mike Hart.

From 2002 to 2007, Hutchison coached at Indiana State University, where he began as the running back coach and finished as the assistant head coach, offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. As the offensive line coach, he was able to develop multiple All Conference players, as well as help two of his players sign NFL free agents contracts.

In 2001, Hutchison was the offensive graduate assistant on Gary Pinkel’s staff at the University of Missouri. Prior to that, he spent two years as a graduate assistant at the University of Toledo where he helped coach Toledo to a 10-1 season, a MAC West Championship, and one of the greatest wins in school history, a 26-7 win over Penn State.

Hutchison started his coaching career at Adrian College in Michigan, under head coach Jim Lyall, as a student assistant coaching the wide receivers and was the junior varsity offensive coordinator. As a player, Hutchison was a wide receiver on the 1997 conference championship squad. As a senior, he was voted team captain and team MVP, while earning first team all conference honors.

A native of Michigan, Hutchison graduated from Adrian College in 1999 with a degree in Health and Physical Education, and a minor in Elementary Education. He resides in Glenville.
