GLENVILLE, WV - Glenville State College administrators recently orchestrated a first of its kind event at GSC – Conversation Day for faculty and staff. Classes were canceled and offices were closed on Thursday, October 17 so all employees could gather together to share dialogue with one another during GSC’s first Conversation Day. Facilitated by Dr. Kathleen Nelson, Interim President, and Dr. Gary Morris, Interim Provost, the day’s activities were designed to provide individuals with opportunities to share their ideas with one another and to design propositions for how to strengthen the College.
Based on the organizational model of Appreciative Inquiry, the day’s conversations commenced with an opportunity for employees to talk about what matters most to them as they experience work at GSC. A second conversation focused on the strengths of the organization from the perspectives of the employees themselves and from what they’ve heard from students, employers, and the community. Building upon what matters most and institutional strengths, teams of faculty and staff then created propositions for how GSC might strengthen its academic and service programs, its processes, and its infrastructure.
The results of the day’s conversations will be used now and, in the future, to assist employees in designing the College’s future by committing to action.
WBOY TV 12 also stopped by Conversation Day, you can see more from the event in their video below:
