Glenville State College Head Softball Coach Rick Moore has resigned. Moore, a native of Gilmer County, had been the head coach of the Lady Pioneer softball team since 2005.
In his first five seasons with Glenville State, the Lady Pioneers increased their win total each year in the conference. In 2010, the team broke the school record with 29 wins. In 2009, they finished second in the conference tournament, completing their best finish in program history. Moore brought in his largest recruiting class this year.
“Coach Moore will always be a part of the Pioneer family, and we thank him for his dedicated service and wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future,” said Athletic Director Janet Bailey.
Prior to becoming coach at GSC, Moore spent one season as the assistant coach for the Ritchie County High School squad that earned a trip to the West Virginia state tournament. Before that, Moore spent two seasons at St. Marys High School as an assistant coach and helped that program qualify for the regional tournament both seasons. He also spent a season with Parkwood High School in North Carolina as an assistant coach.
Moore's coaching resume also includes eight years coaching football and men's softball on various army bases when stationed in Germany, Colorado Springs, and Hawaii. His teams won a number of post-season championships and the Fifth Corps Championship. He also coached successful youth travel softball teams while living in North Carolina.
Moore graduated from Harrisville High School and attended Glenville State College.
