Glenville, WV—Rehearsals are now taking place for GSC Theatre’s upcoming presentation of A.R. Gurney’s ‘The Dining Room’. As the title suggests, the play takes place around a dining room table in a series of scenes that depicts different ways of life. Seven actors will be performing over fifty different roles in eighteen different scenes that take place between the early 1920s and today. Each of the ten cast members will be playing several different roles, some major, and others as extras.
Members of the cast include Lois Miller, Whitney Stalnaker and Sarah Sivard all of Gilmer County, Ryan Konarske of Roane County, Edmond White of Webster County, Zack Cyriacks from Braxton County, and Nikki Spangler from Upshur County.
Dennis Wemm, Professor of Communications at GSC, and Director of the play, describes ‘The Dining Room’ as a serious comedy. “The play is a collection of unrelated stories that take place around a dinning room table, and demonstrate how attitudes and values have changed over the years.” said Wemm.
The GSC Theatre includes Glenville State College students, faculty and staff, and people from the community. The group tries to put on three or four plays per year. Auditions for the plays are always open to anyone who is interested.
The GSC Theatre’s presentation of ‘The Dining Room’ is scheduled for October 3, 4, and 5, at 7:00 p.m. each evening in the President's Auditorium in the Heflin Administration Building. The performance is free to all students and just $3.00 for general admission.
