GLENVILLE, WV - Several students in Glenville State College’s criminal justice honor society, Sigma Pi Xi, recently took part in a scenario-based training session with members of the West Virginia Regional Jail Authority (RJA) during a professional communication skills exercise. The training took place at GSC’s Morris Criminal Justice Training Center and saw the students acting as inmates to provide a more true-to-life experience for the RJA officers.

“This training session was a great experience for our students and the Regional Jail officers. The students were able to see and hear first-hand what good behaviors look like from the correctional officers and their supervisors while participating in a training that many of them will complete if they choose a career with RJA,” said Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and Sigma Pi Xi advisor Dr. Kelly Treece. “Plus it was a nice coincidence that one of the officers participating in the training from the RJA side was a May 2016 graduate from our program.”

That student, Will Coleman, graduated from GSC with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice last May. He recently completed the Regional Jail Authority’s multi-week training academy.

Employees of the Regional Jail Authority and Division of Corrections both hold training academies at the Morris Criminal Justice Training Center.
