Glenville, WV--Dig up your loose change and come support Sigma Tau Delta’s bake sale on Tuesday, October 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00Bake Sale p.m. at the Glenville State College Amphitheatre. In case of bad weather, the bake sale will be located inside the main entrance of the Mollohan Campus Community Center. If you happen to be in class or at work during the bake sale, leftover goodies will be available in the GSC English Department until 4:00 p.m.

Sigma Tau Delta is an honor society for English majors, and GSC started its local chapter last year. Brandi Smith and Jenny James (pictured left to right), both senior English majors and Sigma Tau Delta members, are organizing the fundraising event.

Smith states, “Proceeds from the bake sale will be used to purchase honor cords for Sigma Tau Delta members who are graduating in the spring of 2008. All members will benefit from any remaining funds left in the account, to be used for the future purchase of honor cords as well as a cultural enrichment trip for participating members.” All desserts will be homemade by a few master chefs in the making. Some of the delicious items you can expect to find on the bake sale menu include: red velvet cupcakes, Oreo cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, M&M cookies, brownies, pepperoni rolls, and Jenny’s ‘famous’ sugar cookies.

Dr. Ed Wood, GSC Professor of History, comments, “Jenny’s red velvet cake is a culinary vision to behold, but its appearance does not begin to compare to the creamy texture of the frosting and the delicacy’s soft spongy texture.” He continues, “I have observed that whenever departmental parties and functions are mentioned, my mind turns to the prospect of getting my hands on one of Jenny’s red velvet cakes. In fact, thinking about it now makes my mouth water.”

James is hoping that Dr. Wood’s anticipation toward the bake sale is contagious and GSC members support Sigma Tau Delta’s fundraising endeavor. Also, James reports that Sigma Tau Delta has already received various orders for sugar cookies and cupcakes.
