GLENVILLE, WV – On Thursday, September 13 Scott McClanahan will visit Glenville State College as a part of the ongoing “We, too, are Appalachia” project. The series of performances and presentations, made possible by Glenville State College and the West Virginia Humanities Council, are an exploration of identity and place regarding rural West Virginia.

McClanahan is a co-founder of Holler Presents, a West Virginia based production and small press company. He has also published eight books including “Stories,” “Crapalachia,” and most recently “The Sarah Book” which was featured in Rolling Stone. He will be reading from his published works during the event, which is free and open to the public and will take place beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Heflin Administration Building Auditorium.

His book, “Crapalachia,” details his teen years spent growing up in West Virginia. A New York Times book review called it an “intelligent, atmospheric, raucously funny, and utterly wrenching” work.

The “We, too, are Appalachia” project is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Humanities Council, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
