Glenville, WV—The newly elected members of the Glenville State Student Government Association were sworn into office on Sunday, March 2nd during a Banquet at the Mollohan Campus Community center.
GSC junior Tashua Allman of Parkersburg, West Virginia took the oath of office after being elected SGA president. Allman was elected Vice President a year ago, but stepped up to become President when the 2007 President resigned last fall. “The past year has been a total learning experience for me. At times it was very difficult, but I believe those times made me stronger and improved my leadership skills. I think I am well prepared to be President for the 2008-2009 term,” said Allman.
The new SGA executive board is made up of; Allman, Vice President Rebecca Chesser, Secretary Jamie Mullins, Treasurer Timmothy Walker, Parliamentarian Sean Harris, and Public Relations Officer Kendra Way.
The following students make up the remainder of the GSC SAG; Dave Mclaughlin Senior Class Representative, Katrina Fitzwater Junior Class Representative, Marlon Henry Sophomore Class Representative, Senators at Large are Megan Harper, Frank Hosey, Joe Kute, and Christina Smith, Pickens Hall Representative Patrick Hart, Nontraditional Representative Chad Strimel, Female Athlete Representative Tabitha Goodwin, Male Athlete Representative Max Beaubrun, Commuter Representatives Josh Brown, Chris Cales, Rosanna Deuly, and Michelle Strimel.
The vast majority of the members have never been on SGA before, but a good mix of ages, majors, and male to female ratio leads Allman to believe this will be a very productive group. She commented, “I am very excited to get to know all of them better and work hard with them to accomplish great things for GSC.” The SGA is the student’s voice, the link between the student body and the GSC administration. “If a student has any needs or concerns, they can bring them to the SGA and we have the power to try to make things happen,” said Allman.
The SGA is responsible for hosting two of the largest events on campus each year, Homecoming and the Spring Formal. As President, Allman hopes for an increase participation in both activities. She also feels that the SGA needs to become more active in community service activities. “Sometimes we are so busy planning things for the students, that we forget or don’t have time to do activities that we aren’t required to do but benefit our campus and the community,” said Allman. The Glenville State College SGA has decided to participate in the Adopt-a-Highway Program as a new public service project.
